Marissa Mongillo

After spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach, Marissa Mongillo has been named interim head women’s lacrosse coach with the Hawks.

This past spring, she helped the Hawks to their second straight winning campaign with an 8-6 mark. In her first season with the program, she helped the Hawks to a 10-win season, marking the most wins for Hartwick since 2006.

Prior to Hartwick, Mongillo served as graduate assistant coach at Division II Pfeiffer University in Meisenheimer, NC.With the Falcons, Mongillo assisted the head coach with creating practice plans, instructing extra conditioning sessions, and demonstrating drills during practice. In addition, she supervised student-athlete study hall hours, implemented weekly checks-ins, managed the team’s various social media platforms to encourage fan involvement, and provided situational assistance as needed by the student-athletes and created lifting and conditioning schedules.

Aside from collegiate athletics, the Shelton, CT native spent a summer teaching the game of lacrosse Kindergarten to 12th grade students. The curriculum was comprised of rules and fundamentals including stick work and offense/defense stations while gradually progressing into small-sided games and drills.

Mongillo is not only versed in lacrosse, but also has a decorative background in hockey as well. Beginning in 2009, Mongillo provided seven years of mentorship with the Connecticut Storm Hockey Program. For the Storm, she tended to children facing mental disabilities and worked alongside them to help teach skating techniques and basic hockey skills.

Mongillo has experience coaching clinics in both sports for those sponsored by Elmira College women’s lacrosse and women’s hockey, and Pro-Ambitions Hockey Camp.

A four-year women’s lacrosse standout at Elmira College, Mongillo received Empire 8 Conference accolades in each of her four season with the Soaring Eagles. She scored 56 goals with 18 assists in 59 games for the Soaring Eagles, while contributing 159 ground balls, 139 draw controls, and 70 caused turnovers. She ranks fifth in program history in draws and sixth in both ground balls and caused turnovers.

A two-sport athlete at EC, Mongillo also played two seasons for the Soaring Eagle women’s hockey team. She registered a goal and an assist in 28 career games for the Purple and Gold, and made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a spot in the national championship game in 2015.

Mongillo holds a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Sociology and Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies from Elmira.
