ROCHESTER, NY- On Wednesday, the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2012 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference team. Hartwick junior attack Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) and senior midfielder Mike Morrison (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) were both named to the second team.  Junior defender Max Cooper (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) received an honorable mention and sophomore Cody Ciolino (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) was named the Hartwick representative on the 2012 Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year team.

Hughes, the 2010 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, led the Hawks this season in goals (48) and points (56). He finished the season ranked second in the Empire 8 in goals per game (3.20) and seventh in points per game (3.73). Nationally, he is eighth in goals per game.

Hughes has scored at least one goal in 14 of 15 games this season. His eight goals against Elmira on April 7 is tied for fifth in the country for most goals scored by a player in a game this season.

In his career, Hughes has scored 140 goals with 22 assists for a total of 162 points. He is currently ranked second in goals scored and eighth in points. His 48 goals scored this season also ranked as the fifth-best total in Hartwick history.

Morrison accumulated 47 groundballs this past year for the Hawks which was second on the team. He helped Hartwick lead the conference in groundballs per game with 36. He had a season-best seven groundballs against Babson on March 3. Morrison also scored four goals and assisted on four others this season.

Cooper played in all 15 games this season for the Hawks. He had 38 groundballs and was second on the team in caused turnovers with 15. He started 14 of 15 games this season and earned an assist in a win at Farmingdale State.

One member of each Empire 8 school was named that institution's representative on the 2012 Men's Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that “Competing with Honor and Integrity” is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Ciolino distinguished himself this season and consistently exhibited the critical traits as an outstanding sportsman.

This season, Ciolino scored 15 goals and had 14 assists for a total of 29 points. He registered a career-high three goals versus Farmingdale this season and secured a career-best seven points (2g, 5a) in a victory over Elmira.

Hartwick finished the 2012 season with a final record of 7-8. The Hawks went 2-5 in the Empire 8 Conference.
