Boyd, Dumas, Navarro Earn Empire 8 Honors

ROCHESTER, NY – On Wednesday, the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2012 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams. Hartwick seniors Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional), Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy), and junior Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie HS) each were recognized.
           
Boyd and Dumas were both selected to the 2nd team in singles. In addition, the duo earned second team honors in doubles. Navarro received honorable mention in singles and was selected to the 2012 Empire 8 Conference Sportsman of the Year team.
           
Boyd, who has now been honored by the Empire 8 in each of his four seasons, went 6-6 at the first singles position this season. He was named the 2009 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and was a second team selection in each of his first two seasons. Boyd received honorable mention in 2011.
           
He finished 4-3 in the Empire 8 this season with victories over Utica, St. John Fisher, Alfred, and Elmira. For his career, Boyd played all of his 55 matches at the top flight, securing a 28-27 record.
           
Dumas was 6-2 this season for the Hawks while competing at the second singles flight. He defeated opponents from St. John Fisher, Nazareth, Alfred, Union, Elmira, and Oneonta State. In his two seasons competing at Hartwick, he has accumulated a singles mark of 15-7.
           
Boyd and Dumas teamed up for a 6-3 record in first doubles this year. The duo capped the Empire 8 campaign with a 4-3 mark.
           
Like Boyd, Navarro has been recognized by the conference in each of his four seasons. He earned second team honors from the league in each of his first three seasons with the program. He ended his Hartwick career with a singles record of 32-18 after a 5-4 mark this season. He was also a two-time Sportsman of the Year honoree.
