PITTSFORD, NY- In a game that featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes, it was Hartwick that came out with the advantage in the end as the Hawks outlasted St. John Fisher 84-82 at Bobby Wanzer Court on Friday night. Hartwick has won three straight conference games to improve its record to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the E8. The Cardinals fall to 7-5 and 1-1 in the E8.
Hartwick held a four point lead, 83-79, with 17 seconds left to play in the contest after
Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) sank two free throws. Fisher's Adam Ambielli then hit a three-point shot with 8 seconds left to make it a one-point contest. A foul by Tyler Hart on
Matt Petruccione (Saratoga Springs, NY/Bishop Maginn) sent him to the foul line where he hit one of two attempts. With time winding down, Suderley fouled Keegan Ryan sending him to the charity stripe. Ryan missed the first shot and on the second attempt, the Cardinals were called for a lane violation and turned the ball over to Hartwick as the Hawks came away with the win.

Anthony Keane (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) made big plays down the stretch."
Suderley led 'Wick with 25 points and was one rebound short of his fourth straight double-double game as he pulled down nine boards. Bradley
did have a double-double as he scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds. He added four steals and three assists. Petruccione scored 12 points while tallying three rebounds and three assists. Lufkin
chipped in 13 points.
The first half saw the score change sides 13 times and was tied up five times. The largest lead of the frame occurred at 7:18 as the Hawks held a 28-23 lead after a jump shot from Suderley. Two more ties would occur after that with the final time coming with 1:06 to play on the first of two free throws from Chaz Lott. Lott's second free throw put the Cardinals ahead 35-34 but a layup from Bradley with 39 seconds remaining in the half gave Hartwick a 36-35 lead at halftime.
'Wick would begin the second half on a 13-4 run that saw the Hawks move ahead 49-39 at 14:59 and gave Hartwick its largest lead of the game. St. John Fisher then went on an 18-7 run that spanned over six minutes of game time and put the Cardinals on top 57-56 with 8:43 left to play.
The Hawks would take back the lead at 8:13 on a layup by Keane
and went ahead by two points on a free throw by Keane at 8:09. The two teams would exchange baskets back and forth as there were five ties and six lead changes in close to six minutes of game action.
Suderley's three-point shot with 2:13 remaining to play gave the Hawks a 74-71 lead. Following a missed shot from the Cardinals' Stefan Bock to tie the game, Suderley increased the 'Wick lead to six on another three pointer to move the Hawks ahead 77-71 with 1:21 showing on the clock.
St. John Fisher cut the 'Wick lead to four points on a layup from Lott but a foul by Lott put Bradley on the line and his two free throws restored the Hartwick lead to 79-73 with one minute to play.
Tyler Hart drained a three-point shot for the Cardinals with 50 seconds remaining to reduce the Hartwick lead to 79-76. Suderley would tack on two free throws to increase the Hartwick lead to five points but a trey from Lott made it 81-79 Hartwick with 19 ticks on the game clock. Suderley's two free throws with 17 seconds remaining put the Hawks up by four and after Ambielli hit his three-point shot, Petruccione would end the scoring with the second of two free attempts as Hartwick pulled out the victory.
The Hawks prevailed despite being outshot by the Cardinals 47.5% (28-of-59) to 43.8% (28-of-64). St. John Fisher also led in three point shots made 47.4% (9-of-19) to 42.1% (8-of-19) for the Hawks. Hartwick converted most of its free throws with a 83.3% (20-of-24) conversion rate compared to Fisher's 73.9% (17-of-23).
Hartwick held a slim lead on the glass, 39-34. The Hawks came away with seven steals to just one for the Cardinals.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon when they face Nazareth. Game time from Kidera Gymnasium is at 2 p.m.
