Bethany Carter Bower is the best female sprint swimmer in the history of the swim program at Hartwick.

Carter, at the time of her induction in 2001, still held school records from 1983 in the 100 freestyle (53.35) and from 1984 in the 50 freestyle (24.40). At the time of her graduation, she held school records in four freestyle events.

A two-time Hartwick MVP of the swim team, Carter Bower was an All-American after finishing second in the nation in the 100 freestyle, fifth in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the 200 freestyle at the 1983 NCAA Championships. She was also third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle at the 1984 NCAA Championships.

Carter Bower was the New York State champion in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestyles in both 1983 and 1984 at the New York State Championships. She was voted MVP of the 1984 state meet.

At the time of her induction, Carter Bower was the head men's and women's swimming coach at Georgetown University.
