Bill Beckwith was the first men's lacrosse player to earn All-American honors, receiving third-team accolades in 1991 as a senior.

Beckwith, an attackman and midfielder, graduated as the school-record holder in career points (216), career goals (134) and goals in a season (47). He also ranked among the school's all-time statistical leaders in career ground balls (second, 203) and career assists (third, 82).

Hartwick had suffered six straight losing seasons before Beckwith joined the team as a freshman. The team went on to finish with a winning record in each of his four seasons, reaching postseason play three times. The men's lacrosse team compiled a 40-23 record during that span and won its first ECAC Upstate Lacrosse Tournament Championship in 1991.

As a freshman in 1988, Beckwith tallied a team-high 53 points (24 goals, 29 assists) and led the team to its first postseason appearance with a 10-5 record. He scored a team-high 68 points (47 goals, 21 assists) for the 1990 squad that went 9-6 and won the Empire Lacrosse League Championship before advancing to the ECAC Upstate Tournament. Beckwith contributed 52 points (37 goals, 15 assists) as a member of the 1991 team that finished with a 12-5 record.

He earned second-team accolades on the All-Empire Lacrosse League Team as a sophomore. Beckwith was a first-team all-league selection after his junior and senior seasons.

The 1987-88 Hartwick Male Freshman Athlete of the Year, Beckwith was selected to compete in the 1991 North-South Senior All-Star Game. He was the recipient of the Harry Mosher Award as a senior.
