Larry Serfis ’60, a Northville, NY native, played a major role in the early years of the remarkable history of the Hartwick College men’s soccer program. Serfis, under the leadership of Hal Greig, played for the Warriors in the 1958 and 1959 seasons, which were the 3rd and 4th for the program.

In 1958, Serfis recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over King’s College to ensure the team’s first winning season. The feat triggered a string of 33 consecutive years for Hartwick without recording a losing season.

The following year, Serfis finished second on the team in both goals scored and points. With a knack for finding the net when it counted, Serfis tallied game-winning goals in 3-2 wins over Ithaca and Clarkson, as well as the winner in a 3-1 victory over Hobart.

At the conclusion of the 1959 season, the senior midfielder was an All-Region selection and he later became Hartwick College’s first All-American.
