Paul Lambert is one of very few four-sport lettermen in Hartwick College history. He lettered in baseball, basketball, football and cross country during his tenure at Hartwick.
Lambert was a quarterback, defensive back and punter for the 1950 season, the last season before Hartwick discontinued football. He threw the game-winning touchdown pass against Clarkson in the Hawks' final game that season.
In the 1953-54 season he served as captain of the basketball team, led the team in scoring and set a school record for field goal percentage.
He also played four years of baseball, captaining that squad in 1952.
Lambert ran one season of cross-country after the school discontinued football.
After graduation, Lambert spent one year as the baseball coach and JV basketball coach at Hartwick.
He spent 30 years as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent at Cooperstown Central School, where the track and field complex is dedicated to him. He is also a member of the Athens, Pennsylvania, Sports Hall of Fame, in his hometown.
