Bauman excelled in both track and field and football while at Hartwick. For two seasons on the gridiron, Bauman started both ways as a running back and defensive back, playing every minute of every game those two years.
In 1949, he set a school record with an 80-yard kickoff return against Juniata College.
On the track, Bauman set a school standard in the 100-yard dash, at 9.8 seconds, which translates to a 10.7-second performance in the 100-meters, which remains a school-record at the time of induction.
Bauman also set school records in the broad jump, the 220-yard dash and the 220-yard low hurdles.
He captained the 1950 track and field team to an undefeated season in dual meets and a fifth place finish in the state, and was named outstanding track and field athlete.
