Tony Martelli was the first men's soccer player at Hartwick to be awarded first-team All-American status. He was chosen for that honor after the 1963 season.
He was an All-State selection in 1962 and was team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Martelli, a sweeper, helped Hartwick to a 29-5 record during his three varsity seasons, including the squad's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in the 1962 season.
Martelli had great success in high school coaching. He was a 1995 inductee to the New York State High School Coaches Hall of Fame. Martelli had a 249-54-23 career record at Washingtonville High School, where he coached 1984 graduate and Hartwick Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Hawkins.
Martelli was in his 15th season with the Army men's soccer coaching staff at the time of his induction.
