Hartwick College Athletics

Wright Stadium

On October 7, 2006, the stadium was formally dedicated as Wright Stadium, in honor of Trustee Brian Wright ’02 and the Wright family’s commitment to the College. The surface is FieldTurf, a grass-like synthetic turf that offers the beneficial biomechanical properties of natural grass, combined with all-weather playability, low maintenance, and unlimited playing time. FieldTurf is the first choice for elite athletic venues worldwide, and 24 NFL installations, including the New York Jets, New York Giants, and the New England Patriots, and more than 40 NCAA installations.

The College funded installation of the new surface through the generosity of the Fred L. Emerson Foundation and alumni, parents, and friends of the College. At the south end zone of Wright Stadium stands a new multi-purpose facility completed during summer 2006 “The Hawks Nest” has a ticket office, concession stand, restrooms, and a second floor VIP room that overlooks the south end zone through an impressive wall of glass. Over the summer of 2023 the south side of the stadium added another upgrade with the installation of a new scoreboard gifted to the department from Trustee, Larry Miller (‘73) and his late wife, Dr. Judith Day.

The bleachers were renovated and a new press box installed during summer 2005. This seating area and press box are known as the Coughlin Pavilion, named in honor of P.J. and Carol Ann (Hamilton ’86) Coughlin, who provided leadership gifts to fund the improvements.Wright Stadium is home to the Hawks' football, field hockey, men's lacrosse, and women's lacrosse programs.
