ROCHESTER, NY – The Hartwick College Field Hockey team concluded its regular and Empire 8 seasons this afternoon with a 3-0 shutout win over Nazareth College. The win gives the Hawks an 11-6 mark overall and a 5-1 record in conference play. Naz falls to 6-9 an 1-5. Hartwick outshot the Golden Flyers 20-0 and held a 16-1 advantage in penalty corners over the course of the match.
Despite dominating the first half with advantages in shots (7-0) and corners (9-0), the Golden Flyers held off the Hawks holding them to a scoreless draw after 35 minutes of action.
Morgan Cestari (Lake Grove, NY/Centereach) finally broke through for the Blue and White with her fourth goal of the season at the 42:25 mark on a pass from Brittany Baughman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna).
Less than four minutes later, freshman Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) got a shot past Nazareth goalkeeper Kelsey Evans in a scramble off a penalty corner to bring the score to 2-0. It was Kimble's team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Hartwick would continue to offensively dominate the game, collecting three more shots and an additional three penalty corners until Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) closed out 'Wick's scoring with less than two minutes remaining on a pass from Molly Quinn (Medway, MA/Medway).
The Hawks' defense denied any shots from Naz, while Golden Flyer goalkeeper Kelsey Evans, concluded the day with 14 saves. 'Wick keepers Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Megan Campbell (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Regional) combined for the shutout, the team's sixth of the year.
