Hawks Win Big Over Utica at Moyer Pool

ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's swimming and diving teams each earned big wins over visiting Utica on Saturday at Moyer Pool to stay unbeaten. The 'Wick men downed the Pioneers 142-58 with the Hawk women earning a 138-54 victory.

Leading the way for the men was junior Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH) who had the high-point total on the day with 29.75 points. Sophomore Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) garnered 28 points, while freshman Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) grabbed 23.75 and sophomore Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA) gained 23.75.

Goble earned firsts in the 100 backstroke (56.98), the 200 fly (2:06.06), the 200 backstroke (2:05.16), and teamed with Kleso, Durocher, and freshman Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:41.23).

Phillips scored wins in the 100 (1:00.63) and 200 (2:12.84) breaststroke, and the 200 I.M. (2:03.18). Kleso touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:49.92) and turned in three second-place efforts. Durocher sprinted to the wall in 23.30 seconds to take top billing in the 50 free. He also took the 100 free (51.91), and combined with freshman James Sanders (Sharon, MA), freshman Tim George (Wiscasset, ME), and junior Steven Sayles (Mendon, NY) for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.31).

Divers Nate Quinn (Fonda, NY) and Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY) each earned top points for the Hawks. Quinn (243.65) took the 1-meter event with Morey (230.85) right behind him in second. Morey scored a 205.45 in the 3-meter competition with Quinn earning a score of 196.55.

Sophomores Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) and Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) shared top-point honors each earning 29.75 points for the Hartwick women. Senior Erin Gray (Gardner, MA) added 20 points.

Ha registered wins in the 200 free (2:04.11), 200 fly (2:19.73), 100 fly (1:01.02), and she combined with Smith, freshman Kirsten Stuesser (Anaheim, CA), and sophomore Kristen Grunert (Oakland, CA) for a victory in the 200 medley relay (2:00.49). Smith took first in the 100 backstroke (1:04.58), the 50 freestyle (26.19), and the 200 back (2:16.28). Gray secured the distance events winning the 1000 free (11:27.50), and 500 free (5:38.37).

Hartwick's swimming and diving teams hit the road for their first meets away from the friendly confines of Moyer Pool next Saturday. The teams visit Nazareth College in Rochester with a 1 p.m. start time.
