CLINTON, NY - Hawk swimming and diving squared off against some of the region's top teams on Saturday at Hamilton College with both teams coming away with victories. The Hartwick men recorded wins over Ithaca (126-117), and Hamilton (132-99) and lost to Geneseo (173-68). The women's team downed the Continentals (132-99) and dropped decisions to IC (184-59) and Geneseo (173-68).
Sophomore Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) led the men's side with three winning races on the day. He claimed top honors in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.20, the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.70, and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.97.
Divers Nate Quinn (Fonda, NY) and Josh Morey (Gloversville, NY) also registered first-place efforts. Quinn's score of 213.10 was good enough for first in the 1-meter competition, while Morey took first in the 3-meter event with a score of 243.75.
Freshman Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) took second in a pair of distance events. His time of 10:23.85 earned him second in the 1000-yard freestyle. He also was second in the 500 freestyle race in 5:01.09.
On the women's side, sophomores Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) and Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) picked up second-place finishes. Ha was second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:15.32. Smith was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.85). Ha and Smith also combined with Whitney Fletcher (Superior, CO) and Sam McFarland (Derry, PA) for third in the 400 medley relay.
Smith (50 free), McFarland (200 free), Fletcher (200 breast), Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL) (200 fly), Erin Gray (Gardner, MA) (1000 free), Brittany Sherburn (Franconia, NH) (3-meter diving), and Katie Holmes (Cotuit, MA) (200 back) also earned 5th-place finishes for the Hawks.
Both Hartwick teams are off until they compete at the RIT Don Richards Invitational from December 4th through December 6th.
