Rochester Edges Hartwick Field Hockey

ONEONTA, NY — Anna Dobrzynski (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored two goals to key a 2-1 Rochester victory over Hartwick on Friday evening at Wright Stadium. Dobrzynski scored a goal in each half with her second giving the Yellowjackets the lead for good 14:50 into the second half. The victory evens U of R's record at 3-3. With the loss, 'Wick has now dropped two straight and holds a 3-2 overall record.
Rochester held a 4-1 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in penalty corners in the opening half of play but did not break the tie until the 24:34 mark. Dobrzynski got the ball in front of the 'Wick cage, made a quick move around Hartwick keeper Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), and tucked the ball into an empty goal for a 1-0 Yellowjacket lead.
'Wick wasted little time squaring things up in the second half as Anna Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) teamed up to tie the score just 53 ticks into the period. Kimble started the play with a shot from in close that was deflected right in front to Drake who finished the play on the goal line.
The game stayed tied for less than 14 minutes when Dobrzynski would get the game-winner. The sophomore forward received the ball from Shayna McKie (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville Manlius), dribbled from the right to the left side of the goal and her shot back to the far post beat Chapman to regain the lead for the Jackets.
Hartwick pressured the Rochester defense and goalkeeper Danielle Pearson (Ilion, NY/Ilion) in the latter stages of regulation play. The Hawks took five penalty corners in the final seven minutes of play as the team looked for the tying score. Junior Amanda Barton (Endwell, NY/Greene) had a shot saved by Pearson with five and a half minutes to go, and Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) had another shot turned away in the final minute as the Hawks came up a goal short.
The Hawks will look to snap their two-game slide on Tuesday at Wright Stadium. The team hosts nationally sixth-ranked Cortland (6-0) at 4 p.m.
