Women’s Basketball Come Up Short at Albany College of Pharmacy

          ALBANY, NYLauren Ploof (Hammond, NY/Hammond) and Jalicia Connell (Westbury, NY/Hicksville) combined for 36 points but the Hawks of Hartwick fell on the road to Albany College of Pharmacy 86-68 on Tuesday night. The loss drops 'Wick's overall mark to 5-12. The Panthers improve to 6-8.
          The Hawks led for the opening six minutes of the contest, but an Alex Oaks' three-pointer gave ACP the lead for good with under 13 minutes left in the opening half. A 13-6 run to close the half would give the Panthers a 41-31 lead at intermission.
          In the second half, Hartwick got back into the game with a 13-5 run to start the period. Five different Hawks contributed points in the run. The Panthers, however, would open up a double-digit lead midway through the half. ACP turned a three-point lead (50-47) with 11 minutes left into a 63-53 edge five minutes later, and the Panthers never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.
          Ploof hit 8-of-12 from the field to lead the Hawks with 21 points. Connell connected on 6-of-13 for 15 points and she added seven rebounds. Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, NJ/Paramus) contributed six points and hauled down a team-best nine boards.  
          ACP had four players in double figures led by Amber Batzold and Kelly VanValkenburgh, who combined for 50 of the Panthers points. Batzold netted 26 and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. VanValkenburgh recorded 24 on the night and added six rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Richa Mehta scored 12 and Oaks finished with 10.
          Hartwick will play at Lambros Arena on Friday night against Elmira. The Hawks and Soaring Eagles tip-off at 6 p.m.
