Hartwick Field Hockey Wins “Battle of Oneonta”

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick College (4-10) scored two goals in the second half to overpower Oneonta State (9-7) this evening at Wright Stadium, 2-0. Sophomore Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) and senior Tiffanie Bishop (Shoreham, VT/Middlebury Union) each registered goals in the contest. The Hawks have now defeated the Red Dragons in nine of 11 matches dating back to the 2000 season.
The Hawks held possession for much of the first half and the 'Wick defense did not crack as it held Oneonta State to just one single shot in the first 35 minutes of action. The Hawks held a 6-1 edge in shots at the break, but the game remained deadlocked at zeros as neither team was unable to find the back of the cage.
Kimble opened up the scoring for Hartwick at 48:52. Senior Amanda Barton (Endwell, NY/Greene) began the play with a drive from the circle. Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) got a piece of the ball and directed it to Kimble who finished from three yards out.
Fourteen minutes later, Bishop scored the first goal of her career as she blasted the ball from the top of the circle through traffic and past Dauphinais for a two-goal Hartwick lead.
The Hawks' defense, which was solid all night, did well to limit the chances of Ainsley Stoll, the Red Dragons leading scorer. Stoll entered the match tied for 15th in scoring in the nation yet 'Wick held her to just one shot all night.
Senior Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) recorded her 9th career shutout making just one save in the game. Dauphinais recorded five saves for Oneonta. The Hawks out-shot the Red Dragons 9-5 for the game and held an advantage in penalty corners, 7-4.
Hartwick College will host SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, October 23rd at 12 p.m. The Red Dragons host Utica next Wednesday, October 28th.
