'Wick Swimming and Diving Teams Knock Out Nazareth

ONEONTA, NY - Men's and women's swimming and diving team defeated teams from Nazareth College on Saturday at Moyer Pool. Both Hartwick teams improved to 4-0 on the year. The 'Wick men defeated the Golden Flyers 170-89 while the women's team won 173-121.

Junior Sam McFarland's (Derry, PA) triple highlighted the day for the Hartwick women, who won 10 of 16 events. McFarland opened the day with a first-place effort in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.13. Later, she added wins in the 100 free (56.26) and the 500 free (5:27.01).

Four other Hawks won individual races. Erin Holladay (Everett, WA) had a strong swim in the 1000 free finishing in 11:27.50, Whitney Fletcher (Superior CO) finished first in the 100 breast (1:10.48), Robyn Smyth (Jupiter, FL) won the 200 backstroke (2:17.53), and Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) took the 200 individual medley.

Smith, Fletcher, Ha, and Kristen Grunert (Oakland, CA) nearly broke their own Moyer Pool record in the 200 medley relay coming up less than a second short. Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA) earned firsts in 1-meter and 3-meter diving. She tied for the top spot with teammate Katie Monbaron (Southington, CT) in the 1-meter event with both divers earning a score of 167.25. Bowker then earned the top spot in the 3-meter event scoring 190.95.

Hartwick won 14 of 16 events in the men's competition. Senior Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH), junior Joshua Morey (Gloversville, NY), sophomore Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA), and freshman John Wojtech (Bremerton, WA) won two events apiece. Goble took the 200 fly (2:05.74) and 200 backstroke (2:04.61), Morey was first in 1-meter (217.85) and 3-meter (216.60) diving, Kleso won the 1000 free (10:22.51) and 500 free (5:01.42), and Wojtech took the 100 breast (1:01.07) and 100 free (48.98) races.

Jake Morrison (Roanoke, VA), Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX), Adam Blefari (Dalton, MA), and Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) also scored first-place efforts. Morrison finished first in the 200 free (1:50.37), Cupit won the 100 back (56.17), Blefari scored his first collegiate win in the 200 breast (2:26.99), and Willcox won the 200 IM (2:07.98).

Hartwick's swimming and diving teams will hit the road for back-to-back meets next weekend. The Hawks travel up the road to Oneonta State next Saturday and to RPI on Sunday.
