SLU Bests Field Hockey in Overtime 2-1

            CANTON, NY - The Hartwick College field hockey team suffered its second straight overtime loss on Saturday at St. Lawrence (2-1) by a final score of 2-1. The Hawks fell behind early in the second half but battled back later in the period on a goal from Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley).The host Saints got the overtime winner 2:12 into the extra session. The game marks the fourth one-goal game of the season for the Hawks and the third that has gone into extra time.
            St. Lawrence dominated the first half, drawing 13 penalty corners and firing off 17 shots. Hawk goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Queensbury, NY/Niskayuna) kept the Hawks in the gamemaking 15 of her career-high 20 saves in the opening 35 minutes.
            The Saints got on the board 1:14 into the second half  when senior Kelsey Berry crashed the post and lifted the rebound off of classmate Brooke Maloney's shot past Chapman for her first goal of the season.  The Hawks tied up the game at 14:19 when Angela Eberly (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) fed Kimble from the left side. Kimble slid the ball past Saints goalie Brittany Clark for her second goal of the year. 
            The game winner came just 2:12 into the overtime period as the Saints took their 21st penalty corner of the game.  Senior Michelle Laframboise scored on a deflected shot to give the Saints the victory.
            The Saints finished the match with advantages in both shots (25-4) and penalty corners (21-10). Saints goalie Brittany Clark made three saves in cage. Chapman now has 36 saves in her last two outings with a save percentage of .890.
            Hartwick travels to Elmira College for their first conference game of the year next Saturday, September 18t.h. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
