ONEONTA, NY- Hartwick's men's and women's swimming and diving teams maintained their perfect season records on Saturday with victories over Utica College. The Hartwick men downed the Pioneers 155-91 while the women triumphed 156-86.
The men swept all their events on the day. Senior Michael Phillips (Austin, TX), was the big winner as he took three events and was also part of a winning relay team. Phillips won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.79), 200 breaststroke (2:16.27), and the 200 IM (2:01.47).
Juniors Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) and Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX) and freshman Miles Blaney (New York, NY) all earned two wins each. Kleso was the winner of the 1000 free (10.03.71) and the 500 free (4:50.76). Cupit won the 200 backstroke (2:01.86) and the 100 backstroke (56.06). Blaney was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:47.97) and the 200 butterfly (2:00.30).
Brad Ranson (Tillsonburg, ONT) (48.66) and Chris Wilcox (Dresher, PA) (54.02) had victories in the 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, respectively.
Cupit, Phillips, Wilcox, and Ranson teamed up for victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.20. Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA), Matt Behn (Windsor, NY), Eric Moore (Sioux Falls, SD), and Ranson secured a win in 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.42.
Diver Nate Quinn (Fonda, NY) won both the one and three meter dive events. Quinn had scores of 206.30 and 204.01, respectively.
The women also swept all their events on the day, highlighted by senior Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) and her three wins. Ha earned first-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:15.83), the 200 butterfly (2:17.58), and the 100 butterfly (1:00.45).
Freshman Gwendolyn Mathias (Sunland, CA) won the 1000 free (11:08.18) and 500 free (5:28.18). Fellow freshman Justine Woodend (Visalia, CA) took the 50 freestyle (24.99) and the 100 freestyle (55.80). Sophomore Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA) also won two events in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.14) and the 200 breaststroke (2:35.10).
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL), Maddy Quick (Jaffrey, NH), and Sam McFarland (Derry, PA) also turned in first-place efforts for 'Wick. Campbell won the 200 IM (2:20.26), Quick won the 100 backstroke (1:07.41), and McFarland was tops in the 200 freestyle (2:02.19).
Ha, Nelson, Woodend, and Mallory Weber (Seattle, WA) combined for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:56.27). McFarland, Woodend, Sarah Uminski (Falmouth, ME), and Kristin Grunert (Oakland, CA) won the 200 free relay in 1:48.31.
In the diving events, Lindsey Bowker (Bothell, WA) won both the one and three meter dives with scores of 181.60 and 207.05.
Hartwick will travel to face Nazareth next Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
