MORRISVILLE, NY- Senior forward Chris Ryder (Port Washington, NY/Port Washington) scored 23 points to lead visiting Hartwick over Morrisville 89-66 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks' record is now 7-0 while the Mustangs fall to 2-4.
Ryder also grabbed six rebounds, had three assists, and blocked three shots. Mark Blazek (Erie, PA/Erie Cathedral Prep) scored 18 points with six rebounds and five assists. Anthony Keane (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) had 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Mickey Davis led Morrisville with 21 points and had four rebounds. Hodges Sneed contributed 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Mustangs took the early lead in the first half but Hartwick would come back to tie the game at 19-all with 9:24 remaining when Victor Angeline (East Brunswick, NJ/Rutgers Prep) hit a three-pointer. A 13-2 Hawk run gave them a 15-point lead, 42-27, with just under three minutes remaining in the first. At halftime, Hartwick led 45-32.
It was all 'Wick in the second half as the Hawks maintained their lead and stifled any momentum that the Mustangs tried to muster. The closest Morrisville would get was 10 points, 57-47, at 15:14 but a layup by Blazek and four free throws from Keane put Hartwick up by 16 as they cruised the rest of the way.
"Ryder had a big first half for us and Aaron Laing (Laurens, NY/Laurens) was active in the paint coming off the bench," said head coach Todd McGuinness. "Keane was solid at rebounding and making plays. It's just another road win for us as we are 7-0 heading into our first home game. I'm really proud of our guys and the perseverance they've shown and our main goal is to keep on winning."
As a team, Hartwick shot 50% from the floor compared to Morrisville's 34.3%. The Hawks had the slight edge in rebounding, 43-39. Hartwick outscored the Mustangs 19-6 off of turnovers.
Following the long road trip to start the season, the Hawks return home to host cross-city rival Oneonta in their home opener Thursday night at 8 p.m.
