Rochester Hands Hartwick Field Hockey First Loss

ONEONTA, NY - Visiting University of Rochester scored three times in a 20-minte second-half span to overtake Hartwick in field hockey, 3-1, on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The loss is the first of the season for Hartwick (1-1). The Yellowjackets improve to 2-0.
The Hawks got off to a great start, scoring just under seven minutes into the contest. Sophomore Megan Lefeber (Riverton, CT/Northwestern) got the ball to team leading scorer Meghan Sweeney (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) on the right side of goal. Sweeney beat Yellowjacket keeper Madison Wagner (Cheswick, PA/Fox Chapel) to her right side just inside the post for her third goal of the season.
Rochester would outshoot 'Wick 8-1 the rest of the half, but Hartwick goalie Megan Campbell (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Reg.) would stop five of the Yellowjacket attempts, including a kick save on a rifled shot from Shelby Hall from the left side of goal 20 minutes into the half.
Hall nearly tied the score with just seconds remaining in the half. In close, her shot beat Campbell but deflected off the far post and the game stayed 1-0 in Hartwick's favor at the break.
The Jackets had a goal disallowed in the early going of the second stanza. Hall, playing on the left side, swung the ball across the goal mouth to Alexis Vangellow (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) who put the ball in past Campbell, but a U of R infraction nullified the play.
Ten minutes, 18 seconds into the half, the visitors evened the count at 1-1. Hall was the goal scorer as she fired past Campbell from just inside the top of the circle.
The Hawks would have opportunities to take the lead over the next 14 minutes of action as they earned seven penalty corners. However, shots from Abby Wentlent (Greene, NY/Greene), Sweeney, and Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) were all stopped by Wagner and Lefeber had another shot blocked.
The Jackets took advantage, scoring what proved to be the game-winner with 10:42 remaining in the game. Anna Dobrzynski (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored from the left side of goal, deflecting in off a sliding Campbell.
Dobrzynski added her second of the game just under six minutes later to give Rochester some breathing room. Her initial shot on cage was turned away by Campbell, but she was able to knock in the rebound for the two-goal edge.
Hartwick had two more shots and two corners the rest of the way. Wentlent took both shots, one wide and one saved by Wagner.
The Yellowjackets ended the game with a 22-11 advantage in shots. The Hawks held a 12-11 edge in corners in the match.
Campbell stopped a career-high 13 shots in the game for Hartwick. Wagner finished the game with six saves for the Yellowjackets.
The loss for the Hawks, which was their fourth straight to Rochester, dropped their all-time record against the Jackets to 24-13.
'Wick next plays on Wednesday, September 7 at RPI. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
