PURCHASE, NY- Amanda DeChent scored 3:17 into the overtime period as host Manhattanville defeated the Hartwick field hockey team 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field. The loss evens the Hawks' record at 5-5 while the Valiants improve to 7-4.
The Valiants got on the scoreboard first in the game just 4:21 into the first period. Lindsey Stebenne passed to Rylee McGuire across the goal to the left corner where McGuire tipped in the pass for the 1-0 lead.
In the 12th minute, Hartwick was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity.
Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) nailed the shot past the outstretched arms of Valiant goalkeeper Amy Hilton to even the score at one each. Kimble would add a second penalty stroke goal in the 32nd minute to put Hartwick on top 2-1 going into halftime.
In the second half, Manhattanville would tie the contest up at two when DeChent hit a reverse shot from six yards out. The Valiants had several opportunities to take the lead including with just over three remaining in regulation when consecutive shots by McGuire were denied by Hartwick goalkeeper

The game went to overtime where DeChent won the game with a shot from the right side of the cage that went off Crimi's foot and into the goal.
Crimi made her first collegiate start in goal and she stopped seven shots. Hilton turned back eight shots for the Valiants.
Hartwick had a 17-13 advantage in shots in the game including a 13-2 lead in the first half. Manhattanville would lead 10-4 in the second half. Kimble had 10 of the Hawks' shots in the game. The Valiants led in penalty corner, 10-7.
The Hawks return to Empire 8 play with a game on the road against Houghton on Saturday. It will be the first time the teams have ever faced each other. Game time will be at 12 p.m.
