Women’s Tennis Suffers First Conference Loss to Ithaca

Ruth Jones won in sixth singles, 7-5, 6-1
ONEONTA, NY – The women's tennis team hosted undefeated Ithaca on Tuesday afternoon and the visiting Bombers came away with an 8-1 victory. The loss evens Hartwick's overall record at 4-4 and drops the Hawks to 3-1 in the Empire 8. Ithaca improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8.

Ithaca swept the doubles matches. The closest match came in second doubles where the duo of Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) dropped an 8-3 decision to Laurel Salladay and Marmi Blumenthal.

The lone win for the Hawks on the day came in sixth singles. Ruth Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining) won both sets against Meghan Hedrich 7-5, 6-1. Clark and Lysandra Tetreault (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) both lost tough decisions in third and fourth singles. Both players lost by identical 6-2, 6-3 scores.

Hartwick will look to get back on track when it visits Nazareth on Saturday. Doubles matches will start at 1 p.m.
