Katie Lonsky (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Blair Academy) scored on a pass by
Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Academy) on a fast break as the Hartwick field hockey team notched its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence in overtime on Saturday afternoon. Hartwick is now 1-2 while the Saints fall to 0-3.
Megan Campbell (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Regional) had nine saves in goal for Hartwick. Brady Cooper had six saves for the Saints.
The Saints outshot Hartwick 20-18 in the game and had a number of other great chances deep in the Hartwick zone. Their best scoring chance came with 15 minutes remaining in the game when St. Lawrence's Emma Berry shot past Campbell but the ball glanced off the goal post and back on the field. With the help of great defense by Campbell, the Hawks forced the game into overtime.
With the teams playing seven-on-seven, Kimble took the ball down the field and split a pair of Saint defenders. Cooper came out to challenge the shot but Kimble sent a pass to Lonsky who came up on the left side of the field and hit the empty cage with a shot on the redirection for her second collegiate goal.
Hartwick returns home to face Morrisville State on Tuesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
