Hawks Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat SUNY Cortland

Chris Willcox was a winner in the 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
ONEONTA,  NY-  The Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon at Moyer Pool and both teams came away with victories. The men won by the score of 177-97 and the women won 163-135. The men's record remains perfect at 12-0 while the women improve to 10-2.

For the men, the top performer was Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) with three victories on the day. Willcox was first in the 200 fly (1:58), the 200 IM (2:02.67), and the 100 fly (54.68).

Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) both won two events each. Ranson won both the 200 free (1:45.72) and the 100 free (47.68). Kleso was the winner of the 500 free (4:47.86) and the 100 breast (58.32). His 100 breast time also broke the Moyer Pool record of 59.15 that was set last year by Michael Phillips.

Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy), Cory Perez (Miami, FL/John A. Ferguson), and Jeremy Torres (Bremerton, WA/Central Kitsap) all won one race each. Grunewald took first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:57.03. Perez won the 100 back in 54.93. Torres touched the wall first in the 200 breast with a winning time of 2:13.31.

Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches), Kleso, Ranson, and Lydon Schultz (Mount Pleasant, SC/Bishop England) would team up in the 200 medley relay. The squad swam a winning time of 1:57.99.

Andrew Beckham (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) was the only athlete competing in the diving events. He posted a score of 204 in one-meter diving and a score of 211.60 in the three-meter event.

On the women's side, Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) had a career day in the pool with three victories. Rutigliano swam to first-place finishes in the 200 back (2:17.49), 100 back (1:03.74), and the 200 IM (2:19.88).

Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA/Mayfield) and Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) both had two wins. Woodend won the 100 free (55.31) and the 100 fly (1:02.18). Nelson won the 200 breast (2:31.42) and the 100 breast (1:11.03).

Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) was the other winner of the day. She took first in the 200 free with a time of 2:02.26.

Rutigliano, Nelson, Woodend, and Campbell also were a part of the winning team in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:55.15 was just .16 seconds ahead of the Red Dragons' squad.

The men and women both head on the road next weekend to face Empire 8 rival Alfred. The meets are scheduled to being at 1 pm.
