ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick field hockey team had a tough task ahead of them as it faced Utica on Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The Pioneers scored five times and kept the Hawks off the board in a 5-0 win. The Hawks fall to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8. The Pioneers, who entered today in second place in the E8, move to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Hannah Mackey scored twice to lead Utica. Louise Steele-Norton, Alaina Stojkovski, and Emily Gascon also scored for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers held the Hawks to just three shots on the day while totaling 12 shots of their own. Utica also led in penalty corners, 10-8.

Utica scored its first goal of the game 9:26 into the first half. Mackey would then score her 11th goal of the season less than three minutes later to go ahead 2-0.

Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) had three saves in the Hartwick goal in 55:52 of game time. She was relieved by Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) who had one save in 14:08. Utica goaltender Kelly Casey stopped one shot in the cage as she picked up the win and her fifth shutout of the season.

Hartwick will be back in action on Tuesday as they head down the street to face cross-city rival Oneonta State. Game time will at 7 p.m.
