ROCHESTER, NY- Elizabeth Cusack's goal in the 56th minute proved to be the game-winner as the St. John Fisher field hockey team won 1-0 over Hartwick on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium.  The Cardinals improve to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8 while holding to third place in the conference. The Hawks fall to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8.

The Cardinals held the Hawks to one shot in each half and led 14-2 in the contest. Fisher also led in penalty corners, 15-5.

Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) stopped nine shots in the cage for Hartwick. Danielle Forndaro had one save for the Cardinals.

The Hawks' only shot in the first half came in the 32nd minute from Amanda Coppolo (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland). Hartwick's lone shot in the second half other came at the end of the contest. 'Wick was granted a penalty corner with no time showing on the clock and had an opportunity to potentially tie the game and send it to overtime. Jessica Ott (Katonah, NY/John Jay) took the pass in and hit a shot but it was blocked by the Cardinal defender and St. John Fisher walked away with the win.

Hartwick returns home to host Houghton next Saturday at Wright Stadium. Game time will be at 11 a.m.
