#14 Skidmore Stops Field Hockey 3-0 in Home Finale

ONEONTA, NY- Despite trailing #14 Skidmore 1-0 at the half, the Hartwick field hockey team hung with the Thoroughbreds but ultimately fell by the score of 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-12 while Skidmore improves to 14-3 on the season.

Skidmore was granted a penalty corner 1:03 into the game. The Thoroughbreds quickly got on the scoreboard just nine seconds later when Becca Halter tucked in a pass from Krista Lamoreaux into the left post to give Skidmore the early 1-0 lead.

Skidmore outshot the Hawks 9-2 in the first period but the 'Wick defense was firm as it prevented the Thoroughbreds from increasing their lead. Hartwick goalie Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) stopped five shots to keep the Hawks in the game.

The second half was a different story as Hartwick was held without a shot or a penalty corner. It was a still a 1-0 contest for over 15 minutes of the period until Lamereaux's goal at 50:23 gave Skidmore a 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 for nearly 16 minutes until 66:11 when Alex Hagney scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 3-0.

Carter ended the game with 10 saves in the cage for her fifth double-digit save performance. Haley McDougall had one save for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore finished with a 22-2 advantage in shots and 16-3 edge in penalty corners. Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Hiliary Carlson (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) had both of Hartwick's shots.

The Hawks will wrap up their 2013 season on the road against Ithaca on Saturday. Game time will be at 1 p.m.
