ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams both hosted cross-city rival Oneonta State at Moyer Pool on Saturday afternoon. Both teams came up wins as the men prevailed 179.5-118.5 and the women were victorious 154.5-133.6. The men remain undefeated at 6-0 while the women improve to 5-1.
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NY/Hopewell Valley) led the men with three victories. He won the 50 (21.94), 100 (48.48), and 200 free (1:45.70) events.
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) and
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA/Central Kitsap) both had two wins on the afternoon. Detar won the 200 (1:57.42) and the 100 fly (53.53) while Torres was a winner in the 100 (1:01.44) and 200 breast (2:15.10).
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) won his first collegiate event as he touched the wall first in the 500 free (4:53.98).
Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Acad.) came in first in the 1000 free (10:02.63)
The 400 medley relay team of
Alex Gibson (San Leandro, CA/Castro Valley High), Torres, Detar, and
Joey Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) won in a time of 3:36.49. The 800 free relay squad of Ranson,
Matt Plunkett (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cooper City), Grunewald, and
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL) were victorious with a time of 7:14.54 that set a new pool record.
For the women,
Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) won the 100 (1:10.90) and 200 breast (2:30.67) races.
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) had a 1:03.19 winning time in the 100 back.
Lindsay Bierwert (Leeds, MA/Northampton) claimed first place in the 100 fly (1:02.25). She nearly won the 200 fly but was just .05 behind Oneonta State's Kelly Ruf.
The 400 medley relay quartet of
Allison Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Nelson, Bierwert, and
Kelsey Elliot (Cortland, NY/Homer) were winners with a time of 4:11.90. The 800 free relay team of
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Acad.),
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North),
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern), and Rutigliano set a new Moyer Pool record in a time of 8:07.76.
Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA/Inglemoor) took both diving events. She posted a score of 214.35 in the one-meter diving competition and a score of 217.40 in the three-meter event.
Both teams return to Moyer Pool tomorrow afternoon when they host RPI. Meet time is at 1 p.m.
