ROCHESTER, NY- Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up victories on Saturday as the two squads faced Empire 8 rival Nazareth. The men defeated the Golden Flyers 198-94 to remain a perfect 5-0 while the women were victorious by the score of 185-106 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan),
Jeremy Torres (Bremerton, WA/ Central Kitsap), and
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL) all won two events each to pace Hartwick. Detar won the 200 fly (2:11.05), and the 100 fly (1:00.27). Torres was a winner in the 100 breast (1:08.24) and the 200 breast (2:27.54). Santiesteban touched the wall first in the 200 free (2:00.20) and the 200 IM (2:13.80). Detar's time in the 200 fly along with Torres' 200 breast time and Santiesetban's 200 IM time all set new pool records.
There were four other winners for the men on the afternoon.
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) claimed victory in the 50 free (24.44).
Joey Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) was first in the 100 free (54.50).
Matt Plunkett (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cooper City) was the winner of the 200 back (2:11.06).
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) won the 400 free (4:21.54).
The 200 meter relay team of
Daniel MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie), Torres, Ranson, and Mulvehill won with a time of 1:50.96. The 200 free relay squad of Mulvehill,
Evan DeGidio (Jacksonville, FL/Episcopal School),
Matt Behn (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central), and Ranson posted a winning time of 1:37.82 that set a new pool record.
On the women's side,
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) won three events to lead 'Wick. Mathias was the winner of the 800 free (9:40.37), the 200 back (2:32.04), and the 400 free (4:42.25).
Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley),
Lindsay Bierwert (Leeds, MA/Northampton), and
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) all had two wins each. Nelson had victories in the 100 breast (1:18.03) and the 200 breast (2:47.26). Bierwert had wins in the 200 fly (2:37.31) and the 100 fly (1:09.29). Rutigliano was a winner in the 100 free (1:01.35) and the 200 IM (2:32.45).
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) won the only other race for the Hawks in the 200 free (2:16.35). In the diving portion of the meet,
Lindsey Bowker (Bothell, WA/Inglemoor) posted scores of 220.55 in the one meter and 259.25 in the three-meter diving events for two victories.
There was one relay win for the women. The 200 medley relay team of
Allison Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Nelson, Bierwert, and
Kelsey Elliot (Cortland, NY/Homer) came in first with a winning time of 2:08.40.
The two teams return to Moyer Pool next weekend for two home meets. Hartwick will face Oneonta State on Saturday and RPI on Sunday. Both meets will begin at 1 p.m.
