ONEONTA, NY- Hartwick field hockey saw opportunities come and go as visiting Manhattanville held the Hawks scoreless in a 5-0 victory at Wright Stadium on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-6 on the year while the Valiants improve to 6-4.

Amanda DeChent and Rylee McGuire both had a pair of goals scored for the Valiants. Bregje Smits had one goal.

Both teams had eight shots in the first half. Hartwick's best opportunity to score was in 11th minute when the Hawks were granted a penalty stroke. Kelly Kramer's (Royersford, PA/Villa Maria Academy) attempt was turned away by Manhattanville goalie Amy Hilton as the score remained tied at 0-0. DeChent scored to put the Valiants ahead in the 22nd  minute followed by McGuire's score in the 31st minute as the Valiants took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Manhattanville outshot the Hawks 9-3 in the second half. Hartwick had two shots in the first 6:17 of the period but did not record another one until 42 seconds remained in the contest.  Jessica Ott (Katonah, NY/John Jay) had three shots to lead 'Wick while Kramer and Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) both had a pair.

Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) got the start in goal for Hartwick and had 10 saves. Hilton stopped seven shots for the Valiants.

Hartwick heads on the road to face Empire 8 rival Washington and Jefferson on Saturday.  Game time will be at 10 a.m.
