WASHINGTON, PA- Washington and Jefferson's Gina Taglieri scored the game's only goal with less than six minutes to play in the second half as the host Presidents defeated Hartwick 1-0 on Saturday morning at Cameron Stadium. The Hawks drop to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8 while W&J improves to 8-3 and 1-1 in the E8.
Hartwick held its own despite being outshot 25-1 in the contest. The Presidents held a 17-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) kept 'Wick in the game with 11 stops in the cage. It was her third straight start with double-digit saves.
Catie Santaniello (West Islip, NY/West Islip), Halle Mahoney (Peabody, MA/Peabody), and
Meghan Fay (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) all had defensive saves for the Hawks.
'Wick's only shot on the day came from
Hiliary Carlson (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) just seven seconds before halftime. Amanda Steffey had seven shots with six of those coming on goal to lead the Presidents.
Hartwick returns home to host Vassar in a non-conference game next Friday, October 4. Game time will be at 4 p.m.
