ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick scored the first goal of the game 5:33 into the match but Union would tie it and rally for four goals in the second half in a 5-1 victory over the Hawks in non-conference field hockey at Wright Stadium.
Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) scored her fifth of the season after a nice feed from the side from
Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton). Stuligross served a hard cross from the right side to Stone, who one-timed the ball into the far corner for the Hartwick lead.
The Hawks had other chances to increase their lead but were denied each time by goalkeeper Laura Aptowitz. Stone had a clear shot with less than 24 minutes left in the half that Aptowitz made the save on.
Mckenzie Bond (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had another shot stuffed less than three minutes later. With under 10 minutes left in the opening half, Stone had a breakaway that was blocked once again by Aptowitz.
The Dutchwomen got on the scoreboard with 5:33 remaining in the half. Hannah Najar served in a penalty corner which was one-timed to Hartwick keeper
Yanna Boggio's (Amherst, NY/Amherst) right and in for the tying goal.
Union would hold a slim 8-7 edge in shots for the opening 35 minutes.
Najar would score what would prove to be the game-winning goal 4:27 into the second half. The Hawks couldn't clear the ball in their own circle and Najar pounced on it and fired in Union's second tally of the day.
Sarah Medd pushed the advantage to two 3:11 later as she finished off a cross from Allison Troy.
'Wick had a chance to pull within one as Stone broke free. Aptowitz again made the timely stop to keep the lead at 3-1.
Jessie Mulvey scored Union's fourth goal from Hannah Madden. Sayyida Hasan finished out the scoring with 1.3 ticks left on the game clock. Danielle Melia assisted.
The Dutchwomen held a 13-3 edge in shots in the first half to finish with a 21-10 advantage.
Boggio made eight saves in 53 minutes.
Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) played 14 minutes in cage and
Laura Downey (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) made on save in the final 3:28.
Hartwick next hosts Washington & Jefferson on Saturday in an Empire 8 contest.
