Hawks Fall in Finale Against Ithaca

ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Ithaca College scored twice in the final 13:39 to break a 1-1 tie in a 3-1 victory over Hartwick's field hockey team Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks' season concludes with a record of 4-14 overall and 2-6 mark in league play.

Ithaca opened the scoring at 6:23 but Hartwick freshman Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) tied the score at 23:33 for a 1-1 draw at halftime. Danielle Coiro gave the Bombers the lead at 56:21 and Colleen Keegan-Twombly tacked on another with 11.2 seconds left in the game. Hartwick keeper Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) made seven saves in the game.

Caitlin O'Brien opened the scoring for the Bombers. Cassie Schuttrumpf started the play as she fired a shot on goal that forced a save from Sabatino. O'Brien collected the ball and drove a shot to the far post past the Hartwick keeper for the early advantage.

The Hawks had to wait 17:10 to draw even. Stone dribbled in toward the Ithaca goal, beat the goalkeeper and tried to shoot into an empty net. Defender Sarah Pfeifle was on the goal line to make the defensive save. She attempted to clear the ball but it deflected off an Ithaca defender and in. It marked Stone's sixth goal of the season.

In the second half, the Hawks nearly took the lead after 10 minutes following a corner from Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton). The ball went to Lex Richards (Northport, NY/Northport) who ripped a low shot that hissed just past the far post.

The Bombers got the goa-head strike when Natalie Lynch played a pass from the left over to the right post. Coiro was standing on the goal line and deflected it in for the goal.

With the clock winding down, Keegan-Twombly gave Ithaca an insurance goal on an unassisted tally.

The game marked the final one for Hartwick senior Tori Pellish (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) who was recognized prior to the game.

Head coach Anna Meyer finishes the season with 299 wins in her 27 seasons as Hartwick's head coach. She currently ranks 10th in the all-time NCAA Division III field hockey coaching record books.
