Swimming & Diving Splits With SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's swimming and diving teams split with those from SUNY Oneonta Saturday at The Sally Griffith Herbert '88 Aquatic Center. The Hartwick men defeated the Red Dragons 175-113 to improve to 5-1 on the season. The 'Wick women dropped a 172-116 decision to fall to 3-3 overall.
           
The men's team won 11 events on the day led by senior Miles Blaney's (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) three victories. Sophomore Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) added two wins. Blaney was first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.66), 100 freestyle (48.63), and the 100 butterfly (54.17). Quinn took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:20.32) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.87).
           
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan), Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City), and Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores) also registered individual first-place finishes. Detar took the 200 butterfly (1:57.62), Mulvehill won the 50 freestyle (22.91), Plunkett was first in the 200 backstroke (1:56.63), and Santiesteban won the 400 individual medley (4:20.24).
              
Plunkett, Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield), Blaney and Santiesteban also combined to win the 400 medley relay in 3:37.67. Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley), Plunkett, Day, and Mulvehill won the 400 free relay.
           
The women's team won three events, all coming from junior Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman). She took top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:00.77), 100 butterfly (1:03.42), and 400 individual medley (4:48.14).
             
Sophomore Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer) placed second in a pair of events. Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy), Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North), Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs), and Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) also swam to second-place finishes at the meet.
           
The Hawks are back at it tomorrow as they travel to RPI for a 1 p.m. meet.
