Hartwick Swimmers Fall to Stevens

Brad Ranson turned in three second place finishes on the afternoon for the men while Clare Nelson won two events for the women.
HOBOKEN, NJ- The Hartwick men's and women's swimming teams completed the 2013-2014 regular season on Saturday afternoon against Empire 8 rival Stevens. The Ducks were victorious on the men's side 144-112 and 142-114 on the women's side.

Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) led the men's team with two victories. He took first in both the 200 fly (1:56.54) and the 100 fly (54.32). Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Acad.) was the only other winner for Hartwick as he touched the wall first in the 1000 free (9:49.38).

Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) turned in a trio of second place results. He was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:45.20), the 50 free (22.02), and the 100 free (47.90). Matt Plunkett (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cooper City) placed second in the 200 back (1:57.03).

The 400 free relay team of Joey Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), Plunkett, Evan DeGidio (Jacksonville, FL/Episcopal School), and Ranson placed second with a time of 3:14.03.

On the women's side, Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) won two events to lead 'Wick. She was the winner of the 100 breast (1:09.77) and the 200 breast (2:29.19). Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A.Coleman) had the other event win in the 200 IM (2:16.76).

Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Acad.) came in second in the 1000 free (11:03.18). Rutigliano was second swimmer to touch the wall in the 200 free (2:01.35). Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) came in second place in the 500 free (5:24.42).

The men complete their dual meet season with a record of 13-3. The women finish at 9-7.

The two teams are idle until February 19 when Hartwick competes at the Empire 8/UNYSCSA Championships which will be held at Ithaca College's Athletic and Events Center Aquatics Pavilion. The four day competition runs through February 22.
