Box Score ONEONTA, NY – Goals from
Mckenzie Bond (Baldwinsville, NY/C. W. Baker) and
Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) propelled Hartwick field hockey over Brockport today at Wright Stadium. The Hawks improve to 2-5 on the season with the victory. The Golden Eagles fall to 2-6.
Bond got things started after nearly 21 minutes of scoreless play. Stone started the play with a cross following a penalty corner. Bond was there to finish, scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Just 4:57 later, Brockport managed to even the score. Alyssa Mills would get the goal from 15 yards away and the game was tied heading into halftime.
Both teams were deadlocked in both shots and corners over the first 35 minutes. Both teams fired six shots and earned six corners.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Hawks to take the lead for good. Stone would score her third of the year off a cross from
Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) just 1:16 into the period. It marked Stone's third tally of the season and Ryan's third assist of the campaign.
After two Brockport shots in the next four minutes, the Hawks controlled the proceedings for the rest of the way. The Hawks outshot the Golden Eagles 5-0 and took five penalty corners to Brockport's zero over the next 25 minutes.
The visitors managed a penalty corner with just about seven minutes left in the game. The Golden Eagles registered a shot but it was turned away by Hartwick keeper
Yanna Boggio (Amherst, NY/Amherst) for what would prove to be their last shot.
The Hawks outshot the Golden Eagles 13-9 in the game, including 7-3 in the second half when they held the lead. Boggio would close the match with five saves. Lindsay Farrell made five saves in Brockport's cage.
The Hawks are off until next Saturday when they return to Empire 8 Conference play. Hartwick travels to St. John Fisher for a 5 p.m. contest.
