Fisher’s Hot Shooting Sinks Men’s Basketball

ROCHESTER, NY – Host St. John Fisher seemed like it couldn't miss on Saturday as the Cardinals shot a blistering 60%  from the field in a 102-65 victory over Hartwick's men's basketball team at Manning & Napier Gymnasium.
           
Fisher made 63% (22-of-35) of its shots in the first half as it opened up a 59-36 lead at the break Their shooting spree continued in the second, making 56.7% (17-of-30) for a total of 39 made field goals on 65 attempts in the game.
           
The loss drops to Hawks to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals are now 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
           
Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, NJ/Ursinus College) paced Hartwick with 17 points in the contest. Justin Pratt (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) and Matt Wilson (Shelton, CT/Franklin & Marshall College) each scored 10.
           
The Cardinals were led by Optimystik Kinard's 21 points. Tyler Hart scored 17 with Keegan Ryan and Zach Ottaway each adding 14.
           
Hartwick held the lead for much of the opening nine minutes of the game. A tip-in from Jake Sinicki (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) gave Hartwick a 19-13 edge with 12:57 left in the half but a 7-0 run from Fisher put the hosts up one just over two minutes later.
           
The Cardinals would take control of the game soon after as they made their next eight shots from the field, which included four three-point field goals to open up a 44-26 advantage with 5:39 remaining in the period. Fisher would end the half making 13-of-18 shots (.722).
           
In the second half, Hartwick got as close as 18 after Pratt's three-pointer with 14:27 left on the clock but it would get no closer. A basket at the other end from Fisher would put the Cardinals up 20 and they never led by less the rest of the game.
           
The Hawks made 38.6% (22-for-57) as a team from the field. They hit 10 three-pointers in the game. The Cardinals knocked down 12 shots from beyond the arc for a percentage of 57.1%. They also won the rebounding battle, 41-30.
           
Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) contributed eight points for 'Wick. Ryan Gill (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) added seven and Matt Petruccione (Saratoga Springs, NY/Bishop Maginn) scored five.
           
Hartwick is back in action on Friday, January 16 at home against Elmira.
