Stevens Defeats Hartwick in Women’s Swimming & Diving

ONEONTA, NY – Nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology handed Hartwick's women's swimming and diving team a 158.5-92.5 defeat on Saturday at Sally Griffiths Herbert '88 Aquatic Center. The meet served as the Hawks' Senior Recognition/Parent Appreciation Meet. 'Wick heads into the conference championships in two weeks with a final dual meet record of 6-10.
           
Junior Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) registered a first, second and third-place finish on the day for the Hawks. She won the 200 IM with a final time of 2:15.54 in her last individual race of the day. Earlier, she placed second in the 200 free in 1:59.54. She also was just .40 off the pace in the 100 free with a time of 55.95.
           
Senior Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) earned a pair of seconds in the distance events. She was runner-up in the 1000 free (11:10.63). She was also second in the 500 free (5:26.67).
           
Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs) and Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) each secured a pair of third-place swims for 'Wick. Riggins took third in the 100 breast (1:14.58) and the 200 breast (2:39.54). Agate was third in the 100 back (1:03.99) and the 200 IM (2:21.16). She was also fourth in the 200 back (2:19.74).
           
In the 50 free, Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer) tied for second place. She touched up in 26.29. Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) was fourth (26.33) and Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) was fifth (26.88) as all three Hawks were separated by just .59 seconds. Hayes was also fourth in the 100 fly (1:05.73).
           
Rachel Bellis (Candandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) swam to three finishes of fourth or better. She was third in the 1000 free (11:16.30) and the 500 free (5:30.00) and fourth in the 200 free (2:04.31).
           
Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North) took third in the 500 free (5:30.00) and fourth in the 200 fly (2:20.66). Senior Janine Warren (Seattle, WA/Ballard) was fourth in the 200 breast (2:45.52) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:07.46) and Meghan Barry (White Plains, NY/White Plains) earned nine points with a score of 139.50 in the 1-meter diving event.
           
Bellis, Merkley, Campbell, and Rutigliano combined for second in the 400 free relay in 3:50.85. Agate, Riggins, Hayes, and Merkley finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:58.11).
           
Prior to the meet, seniors Campbell, Mathias, Warren, Rhianna Blake (Gales Ferry, CT/Leyard), Guia Carlini (Camogli, Italy/Liceo Scientifico S. Francesco), and Lauren Johengen (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek) were honored for their contributions to the Hartwick swimming and diving program.
           
The Hawks next compete at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championships in Webster, NY from February 18-21.
