AURORA, NY – A goal from junior Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) 9:26 into the game was all the offense the Hartwick field hockey team would need in a 1-0 shutout of Wells College on Sunday in Aurora, NY.
           
The victory improves Hartwick's overall record to 5-9 and marks the team's second shutout of the season.
           
Ryan tallied on the Hawks' third opportunity of the match. She scored on a rebound for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. She now has fourteen goals and five assists, along with five game-winning tallies in her 50 career games.
           
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) and Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) each had shots on goal prior to the Hartwick score. Coons' effort was saved by Wells goalkeeper Kendrick Wilson, while Stone's forced a defensive save from defender Shelby Bourn. Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) would account for four saves in the Hawks' cage in the opening 35 minutes.
           
In the second half, both teams would register four shots. The Express would get the final two shots in the last five minutes of regulation with Carter making a save on the second to preserve the win.
           
Carter finished the game with six saves to get the shutout for the Hawks. Wilson would stop two Hartwick shots for Wells (4-10).
           
The Hawks host Utica College in their final contest of the 2015 campaign on Saturday, October 31 at Wright Stadium. The Hawks and Pioneers are set to start at 11 a.m.
