ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick defeated SUNY Oneonta in both men's and women's swimming and diving on Saturday at Moyer Pool. The men won a 192-88 decision over the Red Dragons, winning 11 races. The Hawks took first and second in five races and were 1-2-3 in another three. The women's team won by a closer margin of 166-127. 'Wick won one race, 1-2-3-4 and took first and second in four more in a total of eight wins.
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City),
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan), and
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) each won two races apiece. Plunkett took first in the 200 free (1:48.55) and 200 back (1:55.12).
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central) and
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) were second and third, respectively, in the 200 back.
Detar won the 1000 free in 10:08.81 and the 200 fly (1:56.63).
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) placed second in the 1000 free with
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) finishing runner-up in the 200 fly.
Zhang was first in the 100 fly (53.71) and 400 IM (54.59) events. Detar was second in the 100 fly and Quinn was second in the 400 IM.
Edmister (53.20), Zhang (53.33), and Grunewald (55.55) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 back. Quinn (4:59.61), Farrell (5:06.22), and
Christian Burns (East Pembroke, NY/Pembroke) (5:07.75) went 1-2-3 in the 500 free.
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and
David Mauro (Queensbury, NY/Glens Falls) were first and second in the 100 free. Mulvehill's time was 48.11. Mauro was just under two seconds behind in 49.95.
Zhang,
Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield), Detar, and Mauro combined for first in the 200 medley relay. Plunkett, Edmister, Mauro, and Mulvehill teamed up for the win in the 400 free relay (3:17.73).
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and
Imma Rutigliano (Tilson, NY/John A. Coleman) each had two winning swims for the women's team. Bellis won the 1000 free (11:09.96) and 500 free (5:27.77) events.
Rutigliano was second in the 500 free. She also came away with wins in the 200 free (2:00.80) and 400 IM (4:43.03). Bellis and
Bree Jefferds (Watertown, NY/Watertown) were second and third, respectively, in the 200 free.
Eleanor Hanson (White Fish Bay, WI/White Fish Bay) was the runner-up in 400 IM.
Jefferds also recorded a first-place swim in the 100 free (55.82). She was followed by
Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer) in second.
Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs),
Hanna Prendeville (Diamond Point, NY/Warrensburg),
Brianna Valente (Schenectady, NY/Shalmont), and
Natalie Athans (Victor, NY/Victor) finished 1-2-3-4 in the 200 breast. Riggins' time was 2:37.87. Prendeville finished in 2:40.34.
Meghan Barry (White Plains, NY/White Plains) took the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 132.30. She was second in the 1-meter.
Jefferds, Elliott, Bellis, and Rutigliano closed out the day with a win in the 400 free relay (3:45.61).
Hartwick returns to Moyer Pool tomorrow for 1 p.m. meets with RPI.
