Men’s Basketball Beats CCNY For Tourney Title

ALLENTOWN, PA – Hartwick (2-1) defeated The City College of New York 82-71 in the finals of the Muhlenberg Scotty Wood Invitational Saturday in Allentown, PA. All five starters were in double figures, led by Tournament Most Valuable Player Trevor Norton's (Mullica Hill, NJ/Ursinus College) 25 points.

Norton made eight of 18 shots and knocked down four three-pointers for the Hawks. All-Tournament selection Matt Wilson (Shelton, CT/Franklin & Marshall College) and Jake Sinicki (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) each recorded double-doubles. Wilson had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sinicki registered 11 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds.

The Hawks raced out to an 11-point lead, 11-2, following a Norton three-point basket just under four minutes into the contest. A Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) layup increased the margin to 15 a minute and a half later.

The Beavers were able to trim the gap to just two, 38-36, before free throws from Norton gave the Hawks a 40-36 edge at halftime.

The game was very tight through ten minutes in the second half. A pair of CCNY free throws tied the score at 59 with 9:26 left in the game but the Hawks would go on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to go up 68-61 with 6:22 to play. Justin Pratt (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) and Norton each had big three's in the run. The Hawks would not lead by less than five for the remainder of the contest in the victory.

Norton added six rebound, two assists, and two steals to his 25 points. Wilson made four of five shots with two assists and two blocks.

Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) scored 18 points, dished out four assists, and pulled down four rebounds. LaForest added 12 points and four assists.
