ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick's swimming and diving teams recorded team victories over Nazareth College on Saturday in Rochester. The Hartwick men stayed unbeaten at 5-0 with a 166-125 win over the Golden Flyers. The 'Wick women were victorious by a final margin of 177-122 to improve to 3-2.
The Hartwick women won 11 events at the meet.
Imma Rutigliano (Tilson, NY/John A. Coleman) had first-place swims in three individual events.
Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg),
Bree Jefferds (Watertown, NY/Watertown), and
Eleanor Hanson (White Fish Bay, WI/White Fish Bay) won two events apiece.
Rutligliano was tops in the 200 free in 2:14.16. She was followed by
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) in second. Rutigliano also took the 400 free (4:42.98) and the 200 IM (2:32.11). Agate and Hanson were second and third, respectively, in the 200 IM for a 1-2-3 finish for the Hawks.
Agate was the winner of the 100 back in 1:12.24 and the 200 back in 2:34.45.
Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) and
Gabbie Kiefl (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) finished behind Agate in the 100 back with Merkely also taking second in the 200 back.
Hanson won the 200 fly (2:36.43) followed by
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) in second. Hanson would also claim the top spot in the 100 fly (1:11.90) with Hayes grabbing second again.
Jefferds and
Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer) battled for first in both sprint free events. The two teammates tied for first in the 100 free with both athletes finishing in 1:03.01. Hayes was third for another 1-2-3 finish for 'Wick. Jefferds (29.09) edged out Elliott (29.13) in the 50 free by .04 seconds.
Agate,
Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs), Hanson, and Elliott won the 200 medley relay to start the day in a time of 2:11.62. Jefferds, Elliott, Bellis, and Rutigliano combined for first in the 200 free relay (1:56.46).
The men's team secured victories in 10 races against the Golden Flyers.
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City),
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan), and
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) won two races each.
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) and
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) took one race each.
Plunkett had a first-place finish in the 200 free (2:01.74). Detar was just behind him with a time of 2:02.82. Plunkett also was first in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.67.
Detar won the 200 fly event in 2:12.18.
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) and Farrell took second and third for a 1-2-3 finish. Detar also took the top spot in the 100 fly (59.82). He edged out Zhang by less than a second.
Mulvehill won the sprint events, taking the 50 free in 24.77 and the 100 free in 53.90. Plunkett placed second in the 50 with
David Mauro (Queensbury, NY/Glens Falls) finishing runner-up in the 100.
Zhang would set a pool record in the 200 IM. His time of 2:12.26 broke the previous record, set by the Hawks two years ago.

Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield), Detar, and Mulvehill won the 200 medley relay for the Hawks. Their final time was 1:49.74. Mulvehill, Mauro,
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), and Plunkett teamed up for a win in the 200 free relay (1:38.19).
Swimming and diving hosts SUNY Oneonta next Saturday at Moyer Pool beginning at 1 p.m.
