Hawks’ Five-Game Win Streak Against Oneonta Snapped in 105-88 Setback

ONEONTA, NY – Visiting SUNY Oneonta shot a blistering 68% from the field in the first half and never looked back in a 105-88 victory over Hartwick men's basketball Tuesday night at Lambros Arena. The Red Dragons never trailed, shooting 63% for the game and 55% from three-point range with 11 treys in the victory, which is their first over the Hawks since 2009.

Hartwick would shoot 50% (33-for-66) from the floor in the game and made 11 three-pointers of its own, but the Hawks couldn't keep up with the hot-shooting Red Dragons. Oneonta also won the rebounding battle by a wide 40-22 margin.

Justin Pratt (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) led five Hawks in double figures with 21 points. He connected on seven of his 11 shots, including five from downtown. Jake Sinicki (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, NJ/Ursinus College) also had 15 points.

Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) contributed 13 points and a team-best seven assists. Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) finished with 11 points.

The Red Dragons darted out to a quick 10-0 lead in the opening two minutes of the game. Seven straight Hartwick points trimmed the lead to three just under three minutes later. After two Sinicki free throws made the score 24-20 with 11:55 left, the Hawks could only get as close as six on three occasions.

A Norton three-pointer made it 50-44 with under three minutes left before the Red Dragons got six of the final eight points for a 56-46 advantage at the break. Oneonta would make 23-of-34 shots in the half with seven three-point field goals.

Down 10 early in the second half, back-to-back threes from LaForest and a Lufkin layup got the Hawks as close as two points, 58-56, with 17:32 remaining. A 10-0 Oneonta run in a 1:24 span later pushed the advantage back up to 12 points, 68-56.

The Hawks would cut it to five points with 12:52 left, but another 16-7 spurt opened up a lead of fourteen, 86-72. The Red Dragons would convert on four straight trips down the floor later for their biggest margin of the night, 95-78, with just under three minutes to play and they closed out the contest from the free-throw line.

Lawrence Coleman led all players with 32 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line for Oneonta. Jackson Zuvic added 19 points and Jack Dignan contributed 13. Ian Schupp netted 12 points.

Hartwick (3-3) returns to action on Thursday with a road game at Liberty League foe Bard College. Game time is 7 p.m.
