HOBOKEN, NJ – Hartwick was defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at Canavan Arena by a final score of 60-27. The Hawks were only able to convert two buckets in the first half and nine for the game in the loss. 'Wick falls to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the Empire 8 this season. The Ducks improve to 18-2 and 11-1 in league play.
Kelsey Brown (Barrington, NH/Tilton School) and
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) combined for 15 points for the Hawks. Brown had a team-high of eight points which included two three-pointers. Vonasek scored seven points and she tied
Courtney Cirillo (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown),
Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby), and
Christina Graziadei (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) for the team-high in rebounds with four.
The Ducks scored the game's first 12 points with Hartwick unable to get on the scoreboard until the 11:44 mark of the first half on a Brown layup. After she connected on a three-pointer with under nine minutes left to make the score 18-5, the Hawks failed to register another point the rest of the half as they missed their final 12 shots.
A layup from Stone and then a three from Brown would cut the Stevens lead to 17 points, 36-19, with 11:09 remaining in the second half. But the Hawks would manage only two Stone free throws over nearly a seven-minute span as the Ducks built a 32-point advantage in the win.
Stevens was led by Kaitlyn Astel who registered game-highs of 21 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. She was the lone player in the game in double figures. Dylan Krause chipped in nine points for the Ducks.
Hartwick remains on the road on Tuesday when it visits Utica College for a 6 p.m. game.
