CAZENOVIA, NY – Hartwick's women's lacrosse team shutout host Cazenovia (0-1) on Wednesday night by a final score of 18-0. It marked the Hawks' first win of the season. It is also the first shutout of an opponent for the Hawks since a 17-0 win over Ferrum in 2005.

Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) had a hand in half of the Hawks' goals on the evening and 11 different players registered at least a point.
Jweid scored six goals and added three assists. Sophomore
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) notched three goals and three helpers, and junior
Ally Naja (Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls), sophomore
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls), and freshman
Jessie Matt (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) each contributed two goals.
Hartwick scored on six of its first seven shots in the game and led 7-0 after only 10:17. Naja opened the scoring at 28:01 and Jweid netted her first 37 seconds later for a two-goal lead.
Jweid added her second with 4:50 elapsed with senior
Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) assisting, and Coons scored Hartwick's fourth tally just 12 seconds later.
Rosenberg tallied back-to-back goals 2:52 apart for a 6-0 lead. Littleton contributed her second assist on Rosenberg's first tally. Jweid then scored off a feed from
Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) for the seven-goal advantage.
After another Jweid goal at 14:34, she set up
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) for her first collegiate goal with just over 10 minutes left. The Hawks added three more scores in the final nine and a half minutes in the opening period. Rosenberg scored from
Colleen Jones (Ardsley, NY/Hackley), Jweid scored unassisted, and Matt beat the halftime horn for her first 'Wick goal and a 12-0 advantage at halftime.
It was Matt from Rosenberg once again 1:52 into the second stanza. Coons netted her second of the night at 25:08 and Jweid registered her sixth with
Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) assisting at 21:31.
With a 15-0 edge, Jweid set up Naja for her second score. She did the same for
Alex Goodelman (Levittown, NY/McArthur) who also scored her first goal in a Hartwick uniform with under three minutes left. Littleton closed out the scoring with 11 ticks showing on the clock.
The Wildcats managed 11 shots with four on cage but Hartwick keepers
Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and
Carla Centanni (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) kept them out. Luce finished with three stops in just under 50 minutes. Centanni stopped one shot in the final 10 minutes.
The Hawks held a 32-11 edge in shots and won the ground ball battle, 38-24. They also won 16 of 19 draws, with Jweid gathering a game-high 12.
Stanford recorded a game-high three caused turnovers for the Hawks. Coons and
Mel Niewender (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial) each caused two. Niewender and Littleton tied for a game-high with five ground balls.
Alaina Jones (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) and Stanford contributed four apiece.
Hartwick (1-1) stays on the road on Saturday, March 14 when it travels to Patchogue, NY to play St. Joseph's (LI) at 1 p.m.
