CORTLAND, NY –Hartwick's swimming and diving teams swept teams from SUNY Cortland on Sunday. The Hartwick men improve to 10-2 on the year while the women are 5-7. 'Wick's men's team won by a count of 172.5-107.5. The Hawks' women's team was the victor, 162-136.
Imma Rutigliano (Tilson, NY/John A. Coleman) and
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) led the Hartwick women with three individual wins apiece. Rutigliano won the 100 back (1:03.47), the 200 back (2:13.93), and the 200 IM (2:15.37). Bellis took honors in the 1000 free (11:20.91), the 200 free (2:04.03), and the 500 free (5:36.99).
Bree Jefferds (Watertown, NY/Watertown) was first in the 100 free (56.11). She also placed second in the 200 free (2:05.68).
Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs) earned first in the 200 breast in 2:40.58. She was also second in the 100 free (1:14.02).
Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer) was second in the 100 free (57.50).
The 200 free relay team of Jefferds, Elliott,
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan), and Bellis won the 200 free relay in 1:44.49.
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan),
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City), and
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) each won two events for the Hawks' men's team. Detar won the 200 fly (1:58.33) and the 200 IM (2:04.94).
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central) placed second and third, respectively.
Plunkett finished first in the 100 back (54.11) and the 200 back (1:56.91). Grunewald and Edmister were second and third. Mulvehill was first in the 50 free (22.64) and the 100 free (49.45).
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage),
Joey Moffitt (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock), and
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical) each won individual events. Quinn took the 1000 free (10:19.55), followed by
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) and
Christian Burns (East Pembroke, NY/Pembroke). Moffitt won the 200 breast (2:18.52) and was followed by
Brendan Day (Westfield, MA/Westfield) in second. Zhang was first in the 100 fly (54.34).
Mulvehill, Edmister, Zhang, and Plunkett won the 200 free relay in 1:28.76.
Hartwick's swimming and diving teams next compete on January 16 at home against Alfred.
