Hawks Fall at Home to St. John Fisher

ONEONTA, NY – Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) and Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) tied for a game-high 13 points, but Hartwick's women's basketball team dropped a 71-51 decision to St. John Fisher Friday night at Lambros Arena. The Cardinals grabbed the lead 18 seconds into the game and never trailed the rest of the way.

Corbett made five of eight shots, including a pair of three-pointers for the Hawks. She also had two steals. Vonasek made 5-of-11 from the floor, grabbed four boards, and blocked three shots.

After a Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) basket with just over four minutes remaining in the opening quarter, the Hawks trailed by a count of 15-10 before a 5-0 run to close the quarter gave Fisher a 20-10 edge. The Cardinals increased their margin slightly in a low-scoring second quarter for a 30-18 lead at halftime.

In the third, Fisher increased its lead to 19 points, 39-20, with 4:20 left. The Hawks roared back with a 17-8 run to close the quarter down 10 points, 47-37. Corbett would net nine points in the run followed by Vonasek's four.

A jumper from Christina Graziadei (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) made it 51-41 Fisher's favor 2:24 into the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals would score the next nine points to get the lead back up to an insurmountable margin of 19. They led by 16 or more over the final five and a half minutes in the win.

Foreman ended up with nine points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Hawks. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) contributed six points and four assists with Graziadei finishing with five points.

Emily Piacentini led three Cardinals in double figures with 13 points. Mary Kate Cusack and Bridget Carney each registered 12 points.

Hartwick will host Ithaca College tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will serve as the Hawks' Senior Day with a pre-game ceremony honoring Vonasek, Graziadei, Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), and Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) for their accomplishments.
