Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Moves to 9-2 in E8 With 89-81 Win at Alfred

ALFRED, NY – Hartwick men's basketball trailed at halftime, but the Hawks shot 58% from the floor, including an 8-of-13 showing from three-point range, in the second half to secure an 89-81 victory over Alfred at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena Friday night. The victory ups the Hawks' records to 14-6 overall and 9-2 in the Empire 8.

Justin Pratt (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown), who hit 5-of-10 shots from three-point range, led all scorers with 19 points for the Hawks. He paced five players in double figures.

Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, NJ/Ursinus College) netted 16 points, Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle), added 14, and Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) scored 12. Jake Sinicki (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) chipped in with 10 points.

In a tight first half, the host Saxons used an 8-0 run in a three-minute span to take an 11-point, 34-23 lead with 3:24 remaining. A 7-0 Hartwick run in the final two minutes of the half closed the gap to just four, 36-32, at the break.

Trailing by seven in the second half, a 15-0 'Wick run in three minutes handed the Hawks a 53-45 advantage and they never trailed again. The Hawks went 5-of-6 with a trio of three-pointers in the run. Five different players contributed points in the rally.

The Saxons got the deficit down to three with just under 12 minutes to play, but threes from Pratt, Glenn Gavan (Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII), and a bucket from Norton quickly built the Hawks' edge back to 11.

The lead grew to as many as 16 points, 77-61, with under six minutes left. AU managed to cut the Hartwick lead to six points twice with under a minute remaining but the Hawks would close it out from the free-throw line.

Hartwick would shoot 51% from the floor as a team and 55% (12-for-22) from deep. The Hawks held the Saxons to 35% shooting on the night.

Matt Wilson (Shelton, CT/Franklin & Marshall College) missed a double-double by a single point with nine points and a team-high 13 rebounds. He also blocked five shots. Pratt added seven boards and Sinicki contributed six rebounds and four assists.

LaForest dished out five assists. Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) contributed six points.

Tyler Seelman led Alfred with 18 points and six assists. Julian Reinhart scored 14 and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Hartwick looks for its tenth conference win tomorrow against Elmira. The Hawks and Soaring Eagles play at EC's Murray Athletics Center in Pine Valley, NY at 2 p.m.
